Other STD tests
Nationally awarded Clinics in 2016, 2018, 2020, 2023 and 2024 for health and business quality.
There are other infections that can cause clinical pictures similar to gonorrhoea , chlamydia and mycoplasma genitalium, but these are not regularly included in check-ups, since it is only advisable to look for and treat them if they are showing symptoms.
Mycoplasma hominis and Ureaplasma
If these infections are asymptomatic they never harm men or women, in many cases they are not even treated when detected, being considered as normal bacterial flora. We find these bacteria in 30% of the adult population (in the vagina and urethra) and their route of transmission is exclusively through vaginal sex.
Trichomonas vaginalis
It is an infection caused by a parasite that is silent in 50% of cases. When symptoms manifest, there can be vaginal itching or in men, itching in the urethra.
Lymphogranuloma venereum
It is caused by a very aggressive strain of chlamydia and is detectable by testing. As with other chlamydia infections, there are carriers without symptoms. This disease is especially relevant in men who have sex with other men and who practice fisting or who are HIV positive.
Candidiasis
Candida is a yeast that normally resides harmlessly on the skin and mucous membranes until there is a change in its surrounding environment, creating conditions that allow it to grow and cause symptoms. The symptoms depend on the area affected, but the most common in the genital region is itching, and in the vagina, there may also be thick, white discharge, among other signs.
It is not considered a sexually transmitted infection per se, but it can be transmitted through sexual contact.
Gardnerella vaginalis (bacterial vaginosis)
It is an opportunistic bacterium that, under favourable conditions, grows and replaces lactobacilli, which are responsible for maintaining the vaginal environment in normal conditions. Its overgrowth leads to vulvovaginitis (vaginal discharge, irritation, itching and erythema of the vagina and vulva).
It is not considered a sexually transmitted infection per se, but it can be transmitted through sexual contact.
Do you have symptoms in the genital area? We extend the check-up
As you have already read, when symptoms appear after unprotected penetration, there are other relevant infections beyond gonorrhoea and chlamydia.
Under this plan, for men, we screen for DNA by PCR for Chlamydia, Gonorrhoea, Mycoplasma genitalium, Mycoplasma hominis, Ureaplasma species and Trichomonas. The price is €130 with results available within 1 to 3 working days, or €190 with results available within a maximum of 2 hours.
For women, in addition to the tests already mentioned, we also screen for Candida antigen and Gardnerella vaginalis. The price is €150 with results available within 1 to 3 working days, or €210 with results available within a maximum of 2 hours.
The analyses are processed in our laboratory, led by Dr Joycelyna Beltrán Heras, ensuring the reliability and confidentiality of the results.
