Analysis of ITS data at Open House
At Open House, we wanted to do something similar with the data we have collected from our patients and provide you with more information for cases of Syphilis, Chlamydia, Gonorrhea and HIV.
As this is a long article with a lot of information, we are going to present it to you in 2 parts to make it easier to read and understand. In the first part we will compare the incidence in public health with that of our clinics and in the second part we will inform you about where we have detected the infections (in the genital, rectal or pharyngeal area), the type of infection they have manifested and the % of cases that have manifested symptoms when patients have opted for our services by making a medical consultation prior to the performance of their tests.
It is important to bear in mind that in Open House we have an important bias in the data and it cannot be extrapolated to the general population, since we are specialized only in STIs, our patients come because they have had risky sex, they do not always have symptoms and, in many cases, they have advanced knowledge about STIs. Therefore, it is normal that the incidence of STIs is higher in our clinics.
Comparison of STI incidence rates in Open House
At Open House in 2023, we had an incidence of Gonorrhea infection of 6.6% (a rate of 6590.77 per 100,000 patients), for Chlamydia 3.9% (3937.94 per 100,000 patients) for Syphilis 5.5% (5527.12 per 100,000 patients) and for HIV 0.7% (704 per 100,000 patients).
In the case of Mycoplasma Genitalium, as it is not a notifiable disease there is no data at the national epidemiological surveillance level, but in Open House we have reviewed our data from 2020 to the end of 2023 and we have obtained an incidence of 7.14% (7142.85 per 100,000 patients).

We observed a difference with public health as to which is more incident, since at the national level Chlamydia has the highest incidence, followed by Gonorrhea and then Syphilis. In our clinics, the incidence is highest for Gonorrhea, followed by Syphilis and then Chlamydia.
Our conclusion is that this is due to the fact that Chlamydia in Spain is diagnosed almost equally in women as in men, compared to the other two which are more prevalent in the male population, and our patients tend to be mostly men, since women are in the habit of going to the gynecologist.
At Open House, 93% of the samples diagnosed as positive for any of these STIs were from men and only 6.9% were from women.
These data show that Open House is consolidated as a leader in the private sector in the diagnosis and treatment of sexually transmitted infections.
