Nationally awarded Clinics in 2016, 2018, 2020, 2023 and 2024 for health and business quality

At Open House we have extensive experience in diagnosis and in performing hepatitis tests. We use the PCR technique to rule out recent infections of Hepatitis C and serology for the detection of  hepatitis A, B and infections hepatitis C.  Our tests are unbeatable, both for their sensitivity and for their speed of results.

Hepatitis A Testing

Hepatitis A is the most difficult to transmit through sex. Since it is an intestinal infection, there may be transmission by rimming (licking the anus). We have a rapid antibody test, which can be done 3 months after the risk situation, with results in 20 minutes.

What are the symptoms of hepatitis A?

The most common symptoms that appearing in hepatitis A are those that remind us of a simple cold or flu process such as body discomfort, fever, vomiting or diarrhoea.

Why should I get vaccinated for hepatitis A?

If you practice rimming and are not in a close relationship, you should get vaccinated to prevent this infection. It is a very well tolerated vaccine and requires two doses for complete protection. You can do it for free at your family doctor or at Open House if you wish to remain anonymous.

Hepatitis B Testing

Hepatitis B virus is 100 times more infectious than HIV and is mainly transmitted by unprotected penetration. At Open House we have two tests for Hepatitis B, one to detect active infections and another to check if you are vaccinated or if you have had the infection before and therefore are protected. It can be done 4 weeks after the risk contact and the result will be available in 20 minutes.

What are the symptoms of hepatitis B?

It is a very resistant virus that can cause sudden symptoms, but in most cases it usually goes unnoticed, making you a chronic carrier in 10% of cases. The most common symptoms that appear in hepatitis B are those  of a simple cold or flu, but this variant can also add other symptoms such as dark urine or jaundice.

Why should I get vaccinated for hepatitis B?

If you are a person who has oral, vaginal, or anal sex with multiple people and you were born before 1983 you should get vaccinated to avoid this infection. Spaniards born since then have usually already been vaccinated. It requires three doses for full protection.  You can do it for free at your family doctor or at Open House if you want to remain anonymous.

Hepatitis C Tests

Hepatitis C transmission through sexual routes only constitutes 3% of all infections, since the main route of transmission is from blood to blood. The four activities that most increase risk are: group fisting, sharing dildos and sex toys, having sex whilst menstruating, and sharing cocaine dispensers. The first test can be taken 14 days after the risky contact (PCR), and another test can be taken 4 weeks after the contact (antibodies).

What are the symptoms of hepatitis C?

The most common symptoms of hepatitis C in addition of those already mentioned in the other variants are usually pain in the extremities, memory loss or digestive problems.

There is no vaccine against hepatitis C, but in recent years new drugs have been developed for its treatment.

How much do hepatitis tests cost? When can I do these tests?

You can take hepatitis A tests three months after the risky contact, hepatitis B tests four weeks after the contact, and hepatitis C tests 14 days after for PCR or four weeks for the antibody test, unless you have compatible symptoms.

Results are available in 20 minutes for the serological tests and in 2 hours for the Hepatitis C PCR test in our specialised clinics in Madrid and Valencia. The price of serological tests is €40 and €140 in the case of PCR..
