COVID-19 (Sars CoV-2) Testing

At Open House, we perform three groups of COVID-19 tests: two serve to confirm or rule out active infections (PCR and antigen tests), and another serves to confirm infections that have already occurred or resolved (serological antibody tests).

Testing for past infection:

These are tests that detect IgM and IgG antibodies (past infections). These tests are recommended to test for cases that have already occurred and to test for the presence of antibodies after receiving the vaccine.

There are two different serological antibody tests:

• Rapid test: The sensitivity of this test is 90.2%. The results are available in just 20 minutes and the cost is €60.

• ELISA serological test: The sensitivity of this test is 99%, and the results are available in 24-48 business hours. It costs €75.

Testing for active infection:

These are tests that are used to diagnose a COVID infection. There are two types:

• COVID antigen test: The cutting-edge antigen test shows a very high sensitivity compared to PCR (over 95%). At Open House, we get the results back to you in 20 minutes from the time the sample was collected, and it costs €40.

• COVID PCR test: This technique looks for the genetic material of the virus; it is an early detection technique and offers high specificity and sensitivity reaching 99%. At Open House, we get the results back to you the next day (€90) or in urgent cases, in just one hour (€120).

Group or business discounts:

Open House Medical Centre offers special discounts to groups or businesses. Write to us using our contact form indicating the test, date and number of people, and you will receive a response in approximately 24 business hours.

Anyone who has symptoms of an acute upper respiratory infection that appear suddenly and is of any severity with a fever, cough or shortness of breath is considered to have a suspected case of SARS-CoV-2 infection. Other atypical symptoms including painful swallowing, muscle pain, diarrhoea, chest pain or headaches can also be considered symptoms of SARS-CoV-2 infection.

Routes of transmission
  • The infection is primarily spread person-to-person through droplets that are released from the nose or mouth when coughing, sneezing or talking. These fall on objects and surfaces, and other people can be infected if they touch these objects and then touch their eyes, nose or mouth.

    • Therefore, it is very important to wash and disinfect your hands and use a mask when you cannot maintain social distancing of two metres in closed spaces.
